Seniors Section
West Byfleet Golf Club has a long established and successful Seniors Section aptly called "˜The BOBS', an abbreviation of Byfleet Old Boys. It was formed over 30 years ago and has over 100 members who participate in various and numerous internal and external matches and competitions.
Between March & October there are home and away matches against 17 local clubs. All of these involve a post-match lunch and are usually 4BBB format and 16 a side. Additionally, a number of these clubs send out invitations for us to enter teams in their Seniors Opens throughout the summer.
The BOBS also participate in a team winter league competition called the Penang Trophy. This involves playing against 5 other local clubs on a points league table basis, with home and away 10 a side matches, a particular feature being bonus points for an away match win or draw. The culmination of the competition is a presentation day in early March comprising golf and lunch held at one of the participating clubs on a rotating basis.
Internal events include two mixed events with the Club's Ladies Section, a Seniors Open, Spring and Autumn meetings and a Christmas meeting, all followed by lunch.
The McNeil Salvers is the very popular BOBS winter league 4BBB match play event which, played in 4 flights on a points basis, results in some very close finishes in the group stages. The top scoring two pairs in each flight go through to the knockout stages; quarter, semi-final and final matches.
The presentation to first and second pairs is made at the BOBS Annual Dinner in early February which is the premier social event in the BOBS calendar.
All Seniors matches are played from the yellow tees.
The course is very popular with Senior golfers, as it presents a good test of golf throughout the year on a very well presented course with challenging greens and easy walking on undulating, tree-lined and well-bunkered fairways.
The half-way hut is also a very popular feature for hungry and thirsty Seniors!
To qualify for membership of the section players must be existing members of West Byfleet Golf Club, must have reached 60 years of age and no longer be in full time employment.
The BOBS section welcomes new members and applications to participate can be made on joining the club or at any time thereafter.
Of course we welcome new golfers who are moving areas or clubs! The details of our Entrance Fees and 5 and 7 day memberships, as well as application forms, are available on the " How to join " page.
